Neuroendocrine Control of Carbohydrate Metabolism

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

The neuroendocrine control of metabolism is of paramount importance for life. The control over appetite and satiety are very important for the brain to sustain homeostasis of the body, its weight, and the metabolic processes within. In the past, not so much attention was payed towards separate control systems in the brain that selectively control uptake and metabolism of the main constituents of food, namely, proteins, carbohydrates, and fat. This chapter tries to address the complex systems that control metabolism of especially carbohydrates, including the effects of carbohydrate intake on the brain.
