Abstract
Intervention with Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) is used in the pediatric hospital setting in supporting parental sensitive responsiveness. The focus of VIG is to optimize the communication behavior of parents, with emphasis on parental responsivity. With the use of video, successful communication between parents and child can be shown. We aimed to study: (1) parental sensitive responsiveness, and whether this changes after VIG; (2) whether changes in responsiveness remain after three months of VIG; and (3) how parents evaluate the use of VIG. A questionnaire measuring parental responsiveness was developed (focussing on active use of language, agreeing; tuning in; positive coaching; eye contact; general contact and support). Questionnaires were available from 67 parents of children between 0-9 years. Results show that parental responsiveness changes after VIG, and remained positively changed after three months. All parents positively evaluated VIG. These results show the effectiveness of the use of VIG in the pediatric setting. More research is needed to evaluate VIG in the future.
