Abstract
This chapter explores on the role of epigenetic pathways in cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on providing an overview of DNA methylation involvement. The text encompasses the biology and mechanics of DNA methylation process and its significance in the context of cardiovascular disease conditions. Numerous epidemiological studies reported DNA methylation as the principal risk factor that establishes a link between epigenomic components and the development of disease phenotypes. Methylation represents a fundamental step in the evolutionary trajectory of cardiovascular physiology, and this epigenetic alteration holds promise as both a predictive and diagnostic marker. Additionally, considering the potential to modulate epigenetic processes, this chapter underscores and elucidates the current and potential treatment strategies for cardiovascular disease at various stages, ranging from preclinical to clinical phases.
