Samenvatting

This chapter covers current applications for the Virtual Microscope at a Pathology department of a Academic Medical Center. How it is used in education, Pathology work discussions and the recent developments to look for integration in the routine pathology as pilot projects. In addition, it can be used for in tissue banking, to support the selection process of samples, multi-center trials to review the cases over the Internet, TMA analysis with specialized software, ring trials can be organized over the Internet. Furthermore the development of a Histopathology forum for the OECI is described. Pathologists of OECI member institutes can use this application to discuss interesting, innovating or difficult histology. The closed cases can be used as reference material for education.
