Samenvatting

Establishing the diagnosis of fungal endocarditis caused by zygomyces during life occurs rarely. We report on a child in whom zygomyces mitral valve endocarditis has developed. Floating thrombus attached to the mitral papillary muscles protruded in systole from the left ventricle into the aorta. Despite adequate medical and surgical treatment, this lesion recurred postoperatively with development of severe mitral obstruction and subsequent death.
